Old Barn Saved From Ruin Becomes a Beautiful Modern House
An old barn on the brink of going to ruin was salvaged by its owner who worked with architecture studio La Firme and ultimately managed to convert the old structure into a charming and modern house. However, you can’t really tell that just by looking of the building because it basically preserved its original architecture almost intact. As a result it looks like an old barn on the outside while on the inside it’s a modern and vibrant space in perfect sync with its natural surroundings.
The barn, now a charming gathering space for the whole family, is located in Quebec, Canada and sits next to the owners’ main house. It was designed as a retreat for their children and it offers a wonderful view towards the untouched rural landscape. Large windows bring the outdoors in without interfering with the barn’s rustic exterior. Inside, a 30 foot tall ceiling gives the main social zone a super airy and spacious vibe while the collection of open, semi-open and closed areas offer various degrees of privacy. All of these elements ultimately create harmony between the barn and its natural surroundings as well as the spaces within.
