A Charming Wooden House Sits On The Rooftop Of An Apartment Building
From up close this looks more or less like a typical little house, nice and cozy but also very bright and open. Take a few steps back and you realize it’s not an ordinary house at all because believe it or not it sits on top of an apartment building in the middle of Bangkok, in Thailand. This cool rooftop retreat was designed for the building’s owner by studio WARchitect and the project was just completed earlier this year. Instead of a garden this house has a concrete courtyard and is surrounded by tall buildings instead of trees. Even so, it looks and feel very convincing and it even has its own little inner courtyard with a tree at the center of the floor plan.
This little rooftop house can’t be seen from any of the public roads surrounding the building which gives it some privacy and helps to minimize the strong contrast between it and the rest of the building. Its design focuses mostly on creating the impression of a borderless house with a roof and walls that are so slim they seem almo non-existent yet still provide solid structural support. Internally the spaces are organized according to the grid of the apartment pillars below. The rooms are very airy and at the same time very warm and welcoming.
