Charming Timber House Stays True To The Views And Its Beautiful Location
Set on a piece of land carved into the hillside in Ciudad Ho Chi Minh, Vietnam, this beautiful timber-clad structure is one of three-holiday homes designed to take full advantage of the ocean views. The other two houses are clad in stone and respectively glass, the choice of materials giving each one a unique identity. The Timber House was designed by studio MM++ architects and completed in 2018. The architects anticipated the fact that the panoramic views toward the ocean might become obstructed by future constructions and designed the house in such a way to allow it to optimize the viewing experience. They did this by raising the house on a platform and giving it a vertical spatial arrangement.
The internal spaces are organized into two main volumes. One features a high ceiling and a mezzanine level, with large windows at the front and stone cladding at the back. It opens up toward an exterior deck with views of the ocean and nearby hills. The second volume is a suspended box-like structure clad in timber. It houses the first floor of the house, with two-bedroom suites. Large louvers offer it privacy without completely blocking the natural light or views. The social area includes the usual combination of living room, kitchen and dining area and highlights the panoramic views while also creating a seamless connection between the indoor and the outdoor.
