Freshly Remodeled Apartment Embraces An Open Layout With An Indoor Garden
An apartment located in Aquiles, Ecuador was in need of a major remodel and it was the talented team of architects and designers at Quiles Jarrin studio who took on the challenge of transforming it into a unique space. The apartment has a total floor plan of 120 square meters and is situated in the historic center of the city which gives it a nice view over all the beautiful buildings in the area.
The owners had a clear general idea of the changes they wanted to make. They wanted less separation between all the different rooms within the apartment which led the architects to the decision to completely remove many of the interior walls. A series of support columns were left in place and slowly an open and seamless floor plan began to take shape.
The 3-meter high ceiling is one of the major points of the apartment. It introduces a large surface of exposed concrete with a rugged texture and appearance. The ceiling represents a desire to embrace the natural state of the materials and to reveal their unfinished state rather than trying to cover up all the imperfections. This gives the apartment a very unique look and creates the idea of modern ruin. The new interior design also includes a garden that brings light, color and freshness into the apartment. This also gives it a faint forest-inspired feel. The natural light is also amplified and plays a very important role in the new design of this place. Some of the interior walls were replaced by windows that frame the green area. It’s also worth mentioning that the chromatic palette features throughout this beautiful apartment is quite diverse, with a strong emphasis on dark nuances.
