A Modern Pavilion House Surrounded By Magnificent Landscape
This is a site located in Valle de Bravo, Mexico which offers magnificent views over the distant landscape. Such beauty deserves to be admired so when the architects and designers at Estudio MMX were asked to build a house here, they immediately recognized the powerful influence that the landscape had to have on the entire project. They sought not to rival the beauty of nature with their creation but to complement it and to highlight it.
As a result, the house which they erected here is modest in many different ways. First of all, all of the private areas of the house are placed on a semi-underground level, out of sight so as not to obstruct the magnificent panoramas. All the common areas are gathered together in a large and open space that resembles a pavilion.
The strategic decision to hide the private rooms of the house on a lower level eliminated the need for private on the main floor. This in turn meant the common areas could feature full-height windows and large openings which would allow them to frame and to showcase the beautiful scenery in its full glory.
Furthermore, the architects carefully considered different ways in which to integrate the house into its natural surroundings and came up with this simple, pavilion-inspired design that makes use of simple materials such as wood and stone. This creates a breezy and airy ambiance inside the house and ensures a nice continuity between the indoor and the outdoor areas.
