Beautiful Residence On The Edge Of An Extinct Volcano
Situated at the transition between the vast agricultural valley to the North and the forested hillside to the South, this residence takes it all the beauty that surrounds it. The house was designed and built by studio Scott | Edwards Architecture and is located in the Hood River area of Oregon, US. It sits very close to an extinct volcano and it looks as if it’s tucked into the hillside although that’s not the case. Although it looks as if the house has a continuous and linear layout there’s actually a separation. At the center there’s a large void with a modern fireplace and comfortable seating around it, a transitional area between the indoor and the outdoor.
A solid concrete wall marks the South-facing side of the house. This acts as a sort of shield, protecting the house from the harsh winds, the rain and the heavy snow coming down from the South forest area. The Northern facade is by comparison quite the opposite. The house opens up to the outdoors, featuring large windows and sliding glass doors and enjoying a panoramic view of the valley. As far as the interior is concerned, the house has a beautiful kitchen, dining room and living area complemented by a sculptural globe lighting fixture. This is the day area, situated to the left. The sleeping area occupies and right side of the house.
